In Finland, using cannabis and having a small amount for yourself are crimes. Most cases end with a fine, but it goes on your record. Here is what applies in Helsinki, as everywhere in Finland.
A fine is a record
Even a summary fine is registered. It can matter for studies, some jobs, travel and residence permits.
Drug offence
Larger amounts, sharing, selling or growing: up to 2 years in prison.
Aggravated
Large-scale dealing: up to 10 years in prison.
Driving
Zero tolerance: a saliva test, then a blood test. Punished like drunk driving, with a driving ban.
Medicines
Only a few cannabis-based medicines, with special permission. CBD for oral use also needs a prescription.
No coffee shops, no clubs, no legal home growing: in Finland there is no legal way to get cannabis for recreational use.
